Adina's Teaching Philosophy

Adina realizes that high school is a stressful time for even the most talented student, especially in New York City. The first step in successful tutoring is to lay the groundwork for a positive mentoring relationship. Such a relationship is most effective when it focuses on a student's specific objectives and challenges in order to empower that student to do his or her best. In addition to building a relationship with a student, Adina works closely with the student's family to identify the student's specific learning style so that she may customize her teaching accordingly. Aware of the demands on middle- and high-schoolers, she tutors over Skype, FaceTime, and Google Hangout, as well as in person (in Manhattan).
Successful tutoring is not about tips and tricks. Adina teaches her students skills in writing, organization, and academic subjects such as History and English that will benefit them on standardized tests such as the SAT and APs, as well as inside and and outside the classroom, for years to come. Tips and tricks are quickly forgotten; fundamental understanding of a subject lasts much longer. If a family considers it appropriate, Adina is also glad to work with the student's school to better evaluate his or her needs and to track progress over time.
